Jacky Redgate was born in London in 1955, emigrated to Australia in 1967 and lives in Sydney. Working across photographic and object-based practices, Redgate has exhibited extensively within Australia and internationally since the end of the 1970s. In 2004 the Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia presented a comprehensive three-part survey exhibition of Redgate's work, which formed the basis of similar surveys at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney in 2005/6, as well as the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane in 2008 which brought new work into play.
