In Conversation: Tarryn Gill & Pilar Mata Dupont

16 September 2011

Join WA artists Tarryn Gill & Pilar Mata Dupont as they discuss their current exhibition STADIUM. The evening will begin with Gill and Mata Dupont's new performance work Ever Higher, followed by an artist talk led by PICA Curator Leigh Robb. A dramatic intervention produced especially for PICA's Central Gallery, atrium space and balcony, Ever Higher has been informed by the life and work of controversial German filmmaker Leni Reifenstahl and features a rope aerialist and local cheerleading group, the Perth Angels.

A special screening of Riefenstahl's directorial debut Das Blaue Licht (1932) will follow the artist talk. A film of particular relevance to the artists in creating Ever Higher for its acrobatic feats and Reifenstahl's iconic presence, Das Blaue Licht presents a young Riefenstahl performing her own stunt work as a mountain witch misunderstood by local villagers. Don't miss this unique chance to experience the performative element of Gill and Mata Dupont's practice and gain insight into the influences and motives behind this nationally celebrated duo.
