Brendan van Hek was born in 1968 in Perth, where he continues to live and work. He has exhibited in a wide range of public and private institutions, including the Linden Centre for Contemporary Art, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Fremantle Art Centre, Sherman Galleries and Anna Schwartz Gallery. Van Hek's recent solo exhibition at PICA in 2009, A Certain Slant Light, showcased a selection of captivating neon works, many of which were especially commissioned and most recently he had a solo show in May 2010 at Galerie Düsseldorf Perth can we be together. He was the recipient of the Joondalup Invitation Art Award in 2009 and is in the upcoming prestigious TarraWarra Museum of Art Biennale
