'Lizzie Borden took an axe
Gave her Mother forty whacks,
When the job was nicely done
She gave her Father forty-one'
What are you truly capable of? What is anyone capable of when they're trapped in the stifling world of domesticity...
This transfixing and disturbing production explores the life and times of notorious 19th Century woman, Lizzie Borden - murderer? victim? Did she? Didn't she?
Come and peer into the abyss.
The playwright herself was once trapped in a violent marriage where she continuously entertained the idea of murder. She never implemented any of her plans to rid of her violent spouse because none struck her as suitably foolproof.
'I would have killed to maintain my sense of self...' writes Pollock.
And so it is with Lizzie.
From the award-winning Producers (After the Fair, Best Local Premiere, Fringe 2002), Not the Mama Productions proudly presents the West Australian Premiere of Blood Relations by award winning Canadian playwright Sharon Pollock.
