Artist Talk: John Meade

Join visiting artist John Meade in conversation with exhibition curator, Zara Stanhope, for a behind the scenes insight into this significant exhibition Objects to Live by: The Art of John Meade.

JOHN MEADE was born in Ballarat in 1956 and currently lives and works Melbourne. Recent solo exhibitions include Aftermath, Sutton Galley, Melbourne (2005); Incident in the Museum 2, Monash University Museum of Art, Clayton (2005); Dreamer, Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, Melbourne (2004); Propulsion, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne and the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney (2001). He has also contributed to group exhibitions including 21st Century Modern, Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, AGSA (2006); Melbourne Prize for Urban Sculpture (finalist), Federation Square, Melbourne (2005); This was the future...Australian Sculpture of the 1950s, 60s, 70s and Today, Heide Museum of Modern Art (2003); Orifice, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, curated by Juliana Engberg (2003). Awards and commissions include: Aqualung, Victoria Harbour, Melbourne, installed 2006; 2004 recipient of the Anne and Gordon Samstag Award, completing a year of study in New York City; Asialink residency, India, 1998-99, and Mean Yellow, Victorian Arts Centre forecourt, commissioned by the Melbourne Festival, 2000. Meade's work is held in a number of collections around Australia including Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne; Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; and private collections. John Meade is represented in Australia by Sutton Gallery, Melbourne, Australia.
