Human behaviour is a bizarre jumble of affection and hostility, greed and generosity, violence and gentleness.
J.A. Haught
Characters emerge and unravel in this darkly funny physical exploration of human interactions in confinement, set on the twelfth floor of a mysterious institution. Each has their own strategy for survival, from dreams of escape to withdrawal to an interior world; from wrestling for power, to claiming the trappings of official authority.
A rich texture of dance, theatre, movement, video and DJ Tr!p's moody electronica make a 'sophisticated and original work' (Canberra Times), that shifts effortlessly from tender, lyrical moments to explosive physicality.
It's a fresh and powerful work from Tanja Liedtke, one of the most exciting new voices in Australian contemporary dance, and an ensemble of five hot dancers with an impressive and diverse background including most of Australia's major contemporary dance companies, as well as classical dance, theatre, and circus. Composer, DJ Tr!p is one of the hottest names in the nightclub scene, hailed as 'the next eccentric genius of electronic music'. (Liquid Space Media)
'Soft-footed, funny, athletic, delicate, violent in places, and violating. Liedtke knows how to pull us every which way.'
RealTime
'The clarity and rhythm of the movement belie the speed and density of the choreography, and a wide dynamic range provides the opportunity to absorb and breathe. Even so, it would easily stand a second viewing to savour its richness. Quirky jerky movement, lyrical duo intertwining and acrobatic lifts up the walls, all blend effortlessly, as do contemporary and balletic vocabularies... So much to ponder from this stimulating and exciting dance work, not least of which is Liedtke's creative future, likely to be bright.'
