The Caucasian Chalk Circle

Black Swan Theatre Company presents The HotBed Ensemble

29 February - 16 March 2008

by Bertolt Brecht
A version by Frank McGuinness
Directed by Adam Mitchell

The Caucasian Chalk Circle, drawing on an ancient Chinese story, tells the deeply touching story of a servant girl who rescues a child of royal blood from a violent coup and becomes its surrogate mother. The play draws on all of Brecht's virtuosity and climaxes in a bizarre competition between the servant girl and the child's biological mother to determine where the child belongs.

In a production infused with song and movement, the HotBed artists will rework this classic in a dynamic contemporary setting.
