Shannon Bott in Strut #3 at PICA
STRUT dance showcases contemporary dance in three programmes of new works by independent Western Australian choreographers and dance artists. From the sublime to the mundane - our fears, our greed, our space, nation, culture, our pubs, our blokes, ourselves - the dance is indulgent, sparse, humorous, sober, inspired and cheeky, by turns. Programme #1 features works that combine dance with other physical disciplines - a beguiling solo by Claudia Alessi and Kompany Kido in a powerful new work for an all male cast. @ The Playhouse 29 January - 1 February, 2003 - 7pm Standard $22 Concession/FOF $18 Programme #2 In exposing the dancer's life of mimcry, Paul Gazzola presents a beautiful exploration of our human ability to transform. @ The Playhouse 29 January - 1 February, 2003 - 9pm Standard $18 Concession/FOF $15 Programme #1 and #2 Standard $27 Concession/FOF $22 Programme #3 presents works highlighting the diversity of dance - a STRUT trademark. Paul O'Sullivan offers a signature solo, engaging audiences to examine greed, wealth and the Australian way, and Shannon Bott undertakes an hilarious exploration of human transformation of another kind! Shopping, fashion, travel and ...genocide! Paul O'Sullivan A dance solo which brings low and high brow together, just inches above the nostrils. Paul battles to make sense of a world of plenty, and plenty of nothing. It's a messy look at life post September 11, with starving people, international conflict and ... some bum jokes! so...do you come here often? SHOTT dance theatre And so the night begins ... the loner, the lovers, the princess and the pervert immerse themselves in the world of the bar ... unawares, they slip into outrageous and hilarious transgression - the result is CHAOS '[O'Sullivan] is a pleasure to watch in motion, combining athletic skill with a Gene Kelly sense of style and humour.'
