PICA's annual HATCHED National Graduate Show is the most prestigious and comprehensive survey of new emerging artists in Australia today.
Showcasing some of the country's finest graduates HATCHED 08 presents us with a startling array of art spanning painting, print making, ceramics, sculpture, installation, textiles, animation, photography and video. Created by a brand new crop of Australian talent and loaded with ideas, the works in this year's show engage notions of memory, perception, the environment, politics, isolation, everyday life and the body.
The only exhibition of its kind in Australia, HATCHED has been presented by the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts for the last 17 years. During this time it has not only delighted, challenged and surprised audiences, but also provided a unique and important opportunity for recent graduates from the nation's leading art schools to exhibit their work together as outstanding peers from around Australia.
Opening: Thursday 10 April, 6pm
HATCHED 08 Free Industry Forum for Artists
Going Pro - establishing a professional practice after art school
What next? The Hatched 08 Industry Forum for Artists presents recent graduates, artists and industry professionals in a discussion around the possibilities and options of establishing a professional art practice after art school. Speakers will informally and candidly address a number of issues facing emerging artists today, from seeking public funding to tackling the art market, applying for residencies, working in creative communities and looking at diverse practices that involve producing artwork, curating and writing.
HATCHED 08 ARTS RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
The Arts Research Symposium accompanies the Forum; a refereed mini conference in which academics propose their latest ideas and research on creative communities and the impact of emerging technologies on professional practice and the art market.
Saturday 12 April, 2-6pm
Both the forum and symposium are FREE
