PICA Board Biographies
Margaret Moore is an Independent Arts Consultant in Perth and is also the Programme Manager: Visual Arts at the Perth International Arts Festival. In recent years she has worked variously as an agent, advisor, curator, writer and in a representative capacity with the Melbourne based Anna Schwartz Gallery and the Sydney based Shapiro Auctioneers.
Margaret maintains broad-based professional interests in the arts and in social/ cultural developments and advocacy through her honorary positions on the Board of the Perth International Arts Festival and as a member of the Board of the John Curtin Gallery. Additionally, this year to increase and broaden her professional involvements she has taken on a part time role as Program Coordinator with Leadership Western Australia.
Formative years after graduating from the Australian National University, Canberra and City Art Institute, (now COFA) Sydney were in the public art museum sector in curatorial, educational and management roles at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the National Gallery of Australia. She is published widely and has acted as an external examiner, a facilitator for public arts policy reviews and chaired several arts based committees.
Her experience across both the public and private sector and her primary interest in contemporary art continues to shape her thinking around issues of collecting, collections and context.
Roshana Lewis established the Lister Gallery in 1999. The gallery is committed to supporting and exhibiting work of established contemporary Australian artists as well as younger emerging artists who have developed a substantial practice. Lister Gallery also holds a selection of important Australian art from the 50s to the present day in stock.
The gallery represents a select and focused group of contemporary Australian artists and holds four or five exhibitions each year. Artists include John Firth-Smith, Robert Jacks, Dale Hickey, Brent Harris, Andrew Browne, Tim McMonagle, David Wadelton, Robert Hunter, Tim Johnson, Robert Hague, Peter D Cole, and Marcus Beilby.
Roshana Lewis holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia.
Committed to excellence and as active member of the Western Australia visual arts field, Roshana Lewis is an advocate for contemporary exhibitions and events that raise the profile and standards of visual arts practice and audience development in Western Australia. Over the last nine years Roshana Lewis has continued this tradition of representing nationally acclaimed artists in Western Australia.
Tony Chong is a partner with Lavan Legal and practises in the areas of tax, commercial transactions and corporate advisory. He has spent 6 years as Head of Tax and Group Counsel for a major corporate group as well as operating in private practice. Through this experience, Tony offers an exceptional level of legal, accounting and tax knowledge combined with a sound understanding of corporate structures and commercial imperatives.
As Group Counsel to The Griffin Group, Tony's role was a diverse one, encompassing legal, tax, finance, corporate advisory and management of large projects involving mergers, acquisitions and fundraising.
Camillo D'Angelo is the Senior Partner of Vincent Partners Lawyers and has been practising law for twenty years. Within his first five years of practice, he made partnership as the youngest partner of six in a successful CBD based firm, Claudio Shaw (who subsequently merged with Gadens Lawyers.
In 1994 he commenced his own commercial practice and has since developed Vincent Partners into a successful, service and client focused boutique practice, which services a well established client base.
Camillo holds a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Australia.
He is married with three children, and includes spending time with his family and friends, travel and history, photography and reading as his personal interests.
Franklin Gaffney is Director Corporate Services and Public Affairs at the National Native Title Tribunal and was previously a Senior Associate with Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Perth.
He holds a Master of Laws in Labour Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK, a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) from Murdoch University, Perth, WA and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Western Australia, Perth, WA.
Franklin lists rock n roll (listens well, plays badly), contemporary Australian art, the Dockers, bushwalking and camping, Irish history and language (Gaeilge/Irish), and Australian politics amongst his interests.
Pamela Hass is currently University Secretary and Director, Governance Services for the University of Western Australia and has previously held roles as General Counsel to the Macquarie University and over twelve years at Curtin University as General Counsel and University Secretary, including the establishment of their in-house legal service.
Pamela graduated from the Queensland University with a Bachelor of Laws Degree with honours and subsequently gained a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Journalism, English Literature and Writing from Deakin University, and a Master of Laws from UWA.
She is a long-term member of a power walking group and has attended Yoga regularly for over six years. Pamela is a published short story author and accomplished classical pianist, holding certificates up to and including Grade 8 level.
Matthew Howison is a lawyer and investment banker with over eighteen years experience as an adviser to leading Australian and international corporations in the areas of mergers, acquisitions and capital raisings in both the equity and debt markets. Prior to establishing the private investment firm Emerald Partners in 2003, he was a Director in Investment Banking at Citigroup/Salomon Smith Barney and before that an Executive Director of Goldman Sachs Australia and Turnbull and Partners.
In addition to his career in investment banking, Matthew has had considerable experience as an investor in and promoter of the visual arts, media and related industries as well as being a patron and collector of Australian contemporary art. In 1995 he co founded Toast Media with major clients including MTV, Channel V, Nickelodeon, Discovery Channel and National Geographic.
Matthew holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in Law from the University of Sydney and completed his MBA degree at London Business School and Columbia University in New York.
He is a collector and strong supporter of contemporary arts, having served on the board of the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Sydney from 2002-2005.
Dr Julie Robson is a writer, performer, singer, and academic. She is Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of Contemporary Performance at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia, a program focused on original, physical, collaborative, site specific and interdisciplinary approaches to theatre and performance. Her practice-led research is focused on the sound of diva's, lamenters, lullaby makers and monsters, as well as the intersection of Greek mythology with contemporary feminist theatre praxis. She won the 2007 Greenroom Award for Most Outstanding Sound Design in the category of 'new form - theatre' for her company work The Quivering.
Julie is a co-founder of Magdalena Australia, a regional chapter of the international network of women in theatre. She joined the board of the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts in 2006 and is actively involved in the Contemporary Performance subcommittee. In 2007 Julie was a Peer Reviewer for the Theatre Board of the Australia Council.
